At the direction of the Mother of the Emirates, the Emirates Red Crescent, and the Sheikha Fatima Fund for Women Refugees, in collaboration with Etihad Airways, initiated the "Bridge of Hope" initiative. This project aims to train midwives in several countries, including Mauritania, Kenya, and Mali, with the objective of reducing maternal and newborn mortality rates in communities facing health challenges. The initiative prioritizes addressing pregnancy and childbirth-related illnesses and fatalities within refugee communities while also promoting and enhancing access to quality obstetric care in camps.
Additionally, it aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal for 2030, which aims to reduce newborn mortality rates to less than 12 deaths per thousand live births. The project was launched on March 12, 2022.
